To bring or Not to bring?

What we did not need to bring, and what we wish we would have brought:

1. Fleece blankets:  Yes, blankets as in plural. In this hot weather we have used them... once... well Monique has used it once. A better thought would be to bring silk linings, however these are expensive.

2. A wind breaker: there is no need to protect myself against the wind, instead I embrace the cool air as a rehreshing treat like ice cold lemonaide. A better choice would be to bring a small travel poncho, or a small collapsable umbrella for when it rains buckets of water when you least expect it.

3. Vans, New Balance, and Tom shoes: All you really need is one good pair of sandals (Keens or Chacos) another ¨dressier¨sandal (for the ladies to go out in) and maybe... if you want.. a pair of light weight small sneakers for when you want to go on volcano adventures. But to bring more then three pairs of footwear is silly.

4. A wool scarf that could also be a blanket: Much like the fleece blankets... IT IS TOO HOT FOR THESE SUCH THINGS! Maybe it is my Canadian roots that makes me believe that weather cannot be hotter then 20 or 30 degrees, and thus, there has to be a time where this will be useful. However.... it will never be useful.

5. A thermos for coffee or tea: There was one time where Richard saw a sign he thought said No Thermos, and got scared that we would get in trouble for bringing my thermos along... as if there is a thermos police that checks everyone's bag, not for alcohol but for thermos to make sure the beaches are safe of these dangerous things. ¨We caught one... yes, it is a tea drinker this time.¨ When in reality they were speaking about thermals, as in hot water pools that people can enjoy. However, whether or not they are dangerous, they are also useless, as there is no need to be on the run and have no time to sit down for a cup of tea or coffee.

5. Cotton T-Shirts: Having a bag full of cotton t-shirts that are hot and sweaty to wear is not something to look forward to wearing in the morning. Once again, see Canadian thesis on our view of weather. Currently off to the market to buy touristy tank tops with symbols of the local beers and maps of the country.
